Letter from the Chair - June 2025

Sue Raymond | Published on 6/4/2025
Memorial Day supposedly marks the unofficial start of summer. Unfortunately, it seemed much more like the start of fall. Let’s hope Mother Nature figures out the correct weather for the time of year!

The “Burn Your Socks” collection was hugely successful with us collecting 374 pairs of socks. Great job! The lady from St. Vincent de Paul’s was over-whelmed. Thanks to all those who participated.

The Gilligan Island happy hour was an event with great food, fantastic decorations, and lively entertainment.  If you missed it, stay tuned for the next event.

We have hosted two well-attended and well-run regattas.  Mother Nature saw fit to provide rain for both events and no air for the Saturday of the first event. Sailors, being hardy souls, managed to go out and conquer the elements, however, and complete some races so everyone could go home having
sailed the first of the season.

As you have been told in an email, the new website will not be rolled out on June 1st. The site is being worked on so that you, our members, will have an easy transition to the site and that all the information will be accurate and up to date. The website team has been working fast and furiously to meet the deadline, and they need to slow down and complete all tasks at a steadier pace. The website will be rolled out, but the deadline no longer exists.

I am very concerned that derogatory remarks, regarding the new website, have caused some hard feelings among members.  As a result, some members are not treating other members with respect and dignity. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please be nice to one another and eliminate all contentious talk.
As June brings the thoughts of graduation, summer camps and summer vacations, I hope that you will include CYC in your plans. There are many social opportunities on the calendar, sailing lessons for kids and adults and an active racing schedule. Camping behind the Club is also available, and we have boats that can be borrowed for both kayaking and sailing. We definitely are the “chosen place” so come and enjoy. See you around.
