Membership in the CYC Cruising Fleet is open to all CYC members and their families. Boat ownership is not required.

The Cruising Fleet is all about fun at CYC! We have a monthly picnic on club grounds, meet monthly for brunch in the off-season, organize several social activities year-round, and conduct Portsmouth handicap racing on Sundays (open to all types of sailboats).

Sailors of all experience levels are welcome and with any boat! A club within our club, we can help the new sailor or new member hone his or her sailing skills, offer advice on the best way to get that bottom painted in the spring or get opinions on which boats are better. We love and encourage sailing as a family activity, both cruising and racing.

Out on the lake, there is friendly competition every Sunday afternoon. Our old-salts love to help the novice racer. There are no "secrets" in the Cruising Fleet. The fiercest competitors on any given Sunday might easily be seen crewing on each other's boats for subsequent races. Within the fleet there are several J-22's and Catalina 25's that are regularly out racing. Several times over the summer you will find other fleets joining our racing to get additional racing experience.

The first Sunday of each month marks the Fleet Brunch at the Clubhouse. When the Clubhouse is open, the Cruising Fleet has a picnic on the waterfront on the third Sunday of each month beginning at noon. Bring a dish to pass, your beverage, silverware, and a plate and join us. The food is always good. The Cruising Fleet has some of the best cooks at CYC and you can sample the great food. Have lunch with us even if you are not a cruising fleet member. On the second and fourth fridays the ladies' lunch bunch meets.

If you do not have a boat and are interested in racing, there are opportunities to sail on Sunday afternoons or in Club Handicaps. We have fun sails and get members without boats out for a sail or two during the season. Last year, one J-22 spent most of the time doing donuts around a Catalina 25 just to see who was faster.
