YOUTH SAILING CAMPS 2008

MINI SAILORS & ADVANCED MINI SAILORS FOR 7-9YR OLDS

 

Time & Date: Session One for Both Mini Sailors and Advanced Mini Sailors will start July 7th

                                And ends July 10th

                               Meeting Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday

                               9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

                                Session Two for both Mini Sailors & Advance Mini Sailors will start

                                August 28th and ends August 31st

 

                                 Meeting Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday

                                 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

 

  Requirements: Mini Sailors: Must be between the ages of 7-9

                                 Must be comfortable in and around the water

                                 No prior sailing experience necessary

                              Advanced Mini Sailors: Same as above except must have completed

                              The mini sailor’s course

 

                Course Objectives: Mini Sailors: Specifically geared to the learning styles and attention spans

                                 Of this age group the course will cover

                                 Rigging and boat parts

 Safety on the water

                                 Learn to sail a boat effectively on all points of sail      

                              This class is limited to eight

                              Advanced Mini Sailors: This program will provide more on water time to develop

                              The skills learned in the prior session.  Its’ goal is to build confidence, understanding,

                               And basic boat handling skills in the young sailor. Class is limited to eight.

 

Boats: The camp will use the Sunfish class sailboat owned by CYC.  The boat is a self

Rescuing fiberglass dinghy designed to be sailed by one or two people.  During this session they

Will be sailed with two people to a boat.

 Fee: Registrations Received on or before June 15th $235.00 after that date $250.00 (per session)

 

 

BASIC SAILING COURSE

 

                Time & Date: Two week Session begins July 14th, and ends July 24th

                              Meeting Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday

                              9:00 AM – 3:00       PM

 

                Requirements:   Must have completed fourth grade                                                                                                                    No prior sailing experience

                             Must be comfortable in the water

 

                                           Course Objectives: To develop basic sailing skills, this includes:

                                 Rigging and boat parts

 Safety on the water

                                 Learn to sail a boat effectively on all points of sail      

                                               

Boats:  The camp will use the Sunfish class sailboat owned by CYC.  The boat is a self

Rescuing fiberglass dinghy designed to be sailed by one or two people.  During this session they

Will be sailed with two people to a boat.  Students will also be introduced to the 420 a 14’ self-rescuing dinghy, with a main and a jib.

Fee: Registrations Received on or before June 15th $400.00 after that date $425.00


 

 

INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED SAILING

 

Time & Date: Two sessions will be provided

Session One Advanced   August 46h through August 7th

Session Two Advanced August 11th through 14th

Meeting Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday

                               9:00 AM4:00PM

 

                  Requirements; Must have completed fourth grade

                                  Must be comfortable in and around the water

                                  Must have successfully completed the basic sailing program

                                  Or be able to sail effectively on all points of sail

                                  Have an understanding of the basics

 

Course Objective: This group will be broken up into two groups based on ability and experience.  The course will work on refining the skills learned in prior programs, with plenty of on water experiences. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to sail single-handed, if they want. For the more experienced, time will be spent on exploring and developing racing skills.  Both groups will also be introduced to the 420. They will learn how to rig and sail including the fine art of spinnaker flying.   The 420 is a more complex two-man dinghy as opposed to the  Sunfish

.

Boats:  This camp will use the Sunfish, and the 420 class sailboats owned by CYC.  During this students will sail the Sunfish both single and double-handed at the instructor’s discretion. 420’s are an inter-collegiate self-rescuing dinghy sailed with a main, jib, and spinnaker. Students will sail this boat with three to a boat  

Fee: Registrations Received before on or before July 1st $240.00 after that date $255.00 ( per session)
