My husband, Jonathan, and I joined the club 26 years ago. When we moved up to Rochester in 1986 with our 3 sons we were looking for a club to replace Nyack Boat Club, situated on the Hudson River, where we had enjoyed great racing and many fun times. In our search we discovered Canandaigua Yacht club and it suited our young family perfectly. So it continues even as empty nesters! CYC is a jewel indeed! We are avid sailors racing our Ensign and Flying Dutchman at the club and traveling to away regattas with either boats when ever possible. CYC frequently serves as our vacation spot where we enjoy camping behind the club and exploring the country side on our bikes. I race with the Sunfish fleet thursday evenings, Jonathan acts as the PRO for this group. And then Jonathan has added RC Laser sailing to his quiver of boats, and I frequently act as PRO for this highly active fleet. So now Sundays are totally filled with sailboat racing - with lots of excuses not to go home! I am honored to be the Chairman for CYC and I hope to continue to give back to the club for all that, we as a family, have gained from CYC. |

My husband, Neil, and I live in the Canandaigua area and joined CYC in 2009. I started our sailing adventure with lessons at CYC. We soon found our own Ensign and began racing with the fleet on Sundays. Everyone has been very helpful and supportive during our new endeavor. We have also joined the RC Laser fleet at CYC and look forward to continuing to sail our RC boats next season. Again, all the fleet members have been so welcoming and helpful – we have a blast! We enjoy CYC and the all of the activities it offers. After acting as CYC’s Recording Secretary for the last two years, I am pleased to serve as Corporate Secretary for the club. |

I've been sailing at CYC my entire life, growing up on an O'Day Day Sailer and a Sunfish. After some time away for college and a few years in Boston, where we sailed on the Charles River and Boston Harbor, my wife, Wendi, and I moved back to Rochester and joined CYC in 2002, starting out racing in the Flying Dutchman fleet. We now race with both the Vanguard 15 and Ensign fleets, and our kids Nate and Molly often sail with us. We also all enjoy the swimming, beach, camping, good food, and wonderful people at CYC. Having traveled quite a bit, I can honestly say that Canandaigua and the Finger Lakes are a world-class gem, and CYC is an outstanding facility, as if often attested to by visiting sailors at regattas. I'm honored to serve as Commodore of this club which has meant so much to my family. |

Treasurer

My wife Judy and I have been members of the Canandaigua Yacht Club for over 10 years. Even before we joined we were often on the Saturday and Sunday racing scene as "crew" where we learned much about sailing, racing and the wonderful people who were members of CYC. As members we have continued to enjoy the outstanding benefits our club has to offer on beautiful Canandaigua Lake. Our waterfront facilities are excellent and the Club hose boasts the finest in dining and wonderful social functions. I am proud to be a member and currently serve as Treasurer. My goal is to maintain our club in a healthy financial position. |

I joined CYC in 1971having never sailed before and within a week found myself owning and sailing a Shark catamaran. During the later '70s, I served a three year term on the Board of Governors of CYC. My sailing/racing career continued but in a 23' cruising boat until the late '90s when it became evident that maintaining a large boat was too much of a chore in retirement. Living next door to the Club since 1981 has given me the opportunity to observe and participate in the evolution of CYC over these past 30 years. Sailing has seen major changes as we went away from the smaller one design boats to J-boats, Cruisers and more Ensigns. As the '80s progressed, so did a waiting list for a mooring. In the late '90s drysailing became the hot button for racing boats, mainly J-boats, and this continues today with some empty mooring evident in recent years. Along with sailing , the make-up of the membership has seen continuous change in numbers and average age. Yet, CYC continues to be the best kept secret on the lake. Now, some 30 years after my first term on the Board, I have chosen to serve again in appreciation for the wonderful years which the club and its members have given to me. |

John and I joined CYC in 2001. We love all that the club has to offer including racing in the cruising fleet, attending all the social functions, entertaining customers and spending time with great friends. The club has been a wonderful place to also raise our 3 children. Stephany (27) races with her Dad when her schedule allows, Emily (9) loves to be out on the Sunfish and is very active with the Saturday Opti program, Grace (4) loves her time swimming and playing with her friends at the beach. Two years ago we purchased a pop up camper and you will find us camping out behind the club several times a month during the summer. All this is providing a great venue to raise a family With 20 years of professional sales and marketing experience, - I hope I can assist the club in recruiting members during these difficult economic times. I am passionate about CYC and love to share that enthusiasm with potential members. Remember our best referrals for potential members are from our existing members. Spread the enthusiasm and bring your friends down to the club. |

Sally and I joined CYC in 2007, after taking sailing lessons with Sue and Dick Raymond in 2006. We live in Canandaigua, sail a 14-foot monohull, enjoy relaxing in the clubhouse, and attend as many of the club's special events as possible. I am proud of CYC, and I want to help keep the buildings and grounds functioning well and looking good. |

David Kaye
Harbor Master
Email: view email
I joined the club as a Junior member 20 years ago. I started out with a Star and day sailed it for many years. I began crewing with Tom Howard and after several years fell in love with the J24 fleet and decided it was the boat for me. In 2001 I purchased a J24 and ever since I have enjoyed day sailing, club racing and competing at regattas. I value the friendships that have developed on and off the water at CYC. I am blissfully married to Kelly and we have a family of four that keeps us busy. As a family we enjoy all types of water activities, dinning at the club and occasional "yacht club camping". I am happy to volunteer and take on the position of Harbor Master. |
